LULU'S421 Second Ave, 342-9457Early last year, LULU'S used to play French hiphop. It was a great idea, but sadly the DJ did not play real French hiphop--IAM, Supreme NTM, Oxmo Puccino, Alliance Ethnik, and so on. It was soft French hiphop pop, which failed to generate any real interest. Lulu's canceled the night. A few weeks ago, I stopped by Lulu's for a quick drink and heard, while sitting at the bar, an unknown DJ spin what can only (and poorly) be described as Eastern European dub-hiphop. The beauty and mystery of the music complemented Lulu's Old World, brick interiors. Immediately, I entered a mood, a condition that was improved to the point of perfection by the dark and dry wine I had ordered. There was no other place I wanted to be than there, among the aural and architectural ruins of Lulu's. CHARLES MUDEDE
