Drew is one-half of the promotions company Cat Box, which he founded with Meghan Smith. This Saturday, October 20, the pair will host "Rock Fight of the Century" at the Sunset Tavern. Each participating band will have 25 minutes to play, and the audience will decide the winners.

Why did you and Meghan start Cat Box? "We got the name from a big 'Cat Box' sign that hangs in the girls' bathroom at the Sunset Tavern. Meghan and I wanted to start putting on shows that were unusual and that would create more of a punk-rock culture in Ballard. We talked [Sunset Tavern owner] Max into letting us start booking a few nights. Since then we've put on one or two shows a month."

How'd you arrive at the idea for the band fight? "It's a spoof on the Rock Fight that was originally a part of the Cheech & Chong movie Up In Smoke. About eight years ago, Curt from Psyclops Printing put on 'Rock Fight of the Century' at the Lake Union Pub. We figured that since it's a new century, it's time for a new Rock Fight. The band that wins donates all of the prize money to the charity of their choice."

Any favored contenders? Butterflies that sting like bees? Ferocious left hooks to be wary of? "I'm not placing any bets yet. They're all a bunch of bees. There are a few butterflies as well. Dean from the Intelligence for example--you'd think he'd be a butterfly, but he has one hell of a nasty elbow drop."

Who would be in your ideal musical boxing match? Who would win? "I hate questions like these. I won't be able to sleep for weeks thinking about all of the possible combinations. Let's see, how about ZZ Top in one corner versus the MC 5? I think ZZ Top would come out on top. It would be a close match, but ultimately ZZ Top's can of whup-ass would prevail. They also have endurance. And beards."

What about a match between Jean Enersen and Kathi Goertzen? "I don't watch much TV, so I can't really tell the difference between them. But I will say that Terry Gross could take 'em both down."
