Andy Davis
Guitarist Andy Davis has shown up in a variety of local lineups, most memorably with the dearly departed Sister Psychic and an earlier incarnation of Pure Joy. Davis is now leading the Lawnmowers (including former members of Sycophant), who play with Sunset Valley and the John Hyde Band on Friday, January 11 at the Sunset Tavern.

What exactly is your role in the Lawnmowers, and what can you tell me about the band's conception? "I'm on vocals and guitar with James Palmer. Ron Carnal on drums and Pat Pederson on bass fill out the rhythm section. Essentially, Sister Psychic met the Ottoman Bigwigs and became the Lawnmowers in June of 2001. We perform originals as well as songs by the late, great Ryan Vego. We're in the studio right now recording our first full-length, slated for [release in] Spring 2002."

What's the best travel experience you've had in recent memory? "I moved to L.A. for about 18 months and had a blast. I partied my ass off with lots of movie types and fun musicians, but ultimately couldn't get it together with a real band. After burning out, I returned to Seattle and formed the Lawnmowers. It cured me of being just another jaded wanker."

The best drinking experience? "Dodi band practice at the Rendezvous. We would laugh ourselves into stitches packing 'em away. I miss that band."

What's the most disappointing thing you've seen The Stranger do? "Letting Everett True quit as music editor; we couldn't wait for the next issue."
