Bar Details

  • Not your typical Belltown lounge, the Buddha is Thai-kitsch and earnest. The bartenders can be slow but their friendliness allows you to forgive that. The kitchen is open until 10 pm and the rich, crispy cream-cheese-n-crab wontons are the stuff of dreams. On weeknights you might find a low-key DJ; weekends are dancier (hiphop, retro, funk) starting at 10 pm. Trivia Mondays at 8 pm.
  • Hours: 11 am-2 am daily.
  • Happy Hour: Daily 4-7 pm, 10 pm-midnight (Food and drink specials).
  • Features: Full Menu, Happy Hour, Snacks Available, Trivia Night, Outdoor Seating and Dancing
  • Scene: Cocktail Lounge and Themed

The Friendly Buddha

I love the Weekend DJ's and the staff who are always very friendly. It's the only 80's bar in Belltown that I know of and I usually meet friendly people here. It's a far cry from the Bridge and Tunnel crowd on 1st and the grunge and crusty crowd next door- though occasionally Buddha may receive a few ambassadors from both groups. There's 2 happy hours at night and the food is some of the best Thai I've ever had. Buddha is chill friendly place worthy of the name.

LAME!!

Used to go here all the time maybe 6 months ago. I left, went to NYC for a little while, came back and this bar is totally different.

Different door guy, different DJ on Saturday's and this place is totally DEAD.

Not only is it dead but they have slightly raised their drink prices and the few people who go here are as lame as this bar has become. I'm not going back.

Always dead

We've been here several times on week nights and weekends and this place is ALWAYS EMPTY.

Personally, I hate large crowds but this place seriously gives me chills like I'm in a saloon in a ghost town or something.

I've tried, but I just can't get into Buddha.
The dead atmosphere along with the fact that it took me almost 10 minutes to get a drink in my hand because she was too busy talking to her friends and I was the only person in line.

I believe it was the homeless/crackhead/zombie types that started crawling in around midnight where we gave up on this place and went right next door to Shorty's.

This is about the only place in Belltown I would consider to be "hip" now that McCleod is closing.

Located next to the grunge Shorty's, this place has a nice casual, laid back atmosphere. I've actually seen kids get their hair all jacked up like Robert Smith for 80's night.

Nobody has an attitude here....I've met several new friends at this place. No fights, no rude people...friendly staff, great DJ's. Buddha is my favorite bar in Belltown!!

Great Food + Fun Music

I went to Buddha on a Saturday night. The DJ was playing 80s music--Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Devo etc. while a concert tour DVD (I believe it was Depeche Mode) was projected on a screen in the back. It definitely brought back memories--remember when cell phones were the size of a brick? The atmosphere was totally friendly and the drinks were mixed "knock you on your butt" strong. (I recommend the jello shots, but use caution or you'll be wasted before you know it.) And the food, oh the food was so good. The crab darlings, dumplings, I don't know fried crab and cream cheese things were fight over the last one good. And the pad Thai was the best I've had in a long, long time. As another reviewer pointed out though, with only 2 bathrooms the wait can be long once it gets crowded (a loveseat in one of them may encourage lingering too...) so don't wait until the last minute if you've got to go.

Great music!

Where else can you go in Belltown on a weekend and hear The Smiths, Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears? I love Buddha! The music is fantastic and the DJ's really know how to mix. I've lived in Belltown for over 6 years and have never been able to find a place that plays anything other than Top 40 on weekends. The crowd at Buddha is friendly and laid back. More locals and regulars with a nice mixed crowd and good balance of men and women. It has the relaxed atmosphere of a local pub with plenty of space for those who like to dance. I do recommend a larger bar because on weekends the line can get kind of long but it moves fast. Their late night happy hour rocks!

FUN PLACE- NO ATTITUDE!!!

Everything about this placesays fun -and no attitude- its nice but not fancy, menu features items like penetrating pud see yiew, pusating phad thai- and the servers ask how many kisses - rather than stars to desribe the spice level-again- fun the couches feel like your at home and the staff make a stiff drink and serve it with a snmile !! if you wanna good place to dance- you can actually dance here without feeling like your in a meat market this place is an oasis in the middle of all the belltown madness.

Dinner and Dancing

Buddha is great for a bite to eat, a stiff drink, conversation, and good music. You can go there and chill on the patio during the week, but the weekend DJ's are great -- playing good music that gets you on the dance floor or at the very least groovin' on your barstool. And it's not the top-forty shit you hear down on 1st. Buddha also has an awesome happy hour with cheap, good stuff on the menu. The bartenders are friendly and never skimp on the booze. I've seen lots of private parties and events here -- it's a fun hangout with very little attitude and lots of atmosphere.

Belltowns Best Happy Hour

HAPPY HOUR ROCKS HERE- it seems to always be happy hour - drinks are cheap and they have a heavy hand. drinks are so good that you still get out pretty cheaply even when its not happy hour- i am definitely a regular - drinks are good but bar staff is why i keep coming back- they rock

STIFF DRINKS- HOT STAFF

I am a Belltoen local & Lovethe place- the only stiff $3-jager shot in town - poured bya sexy blonde goddess - who believe it or not doesnt even have an attitude- buddha is cool because its got the style of the more trendy 1st ave scene- but the chill attitude of the second ave scene and pulls it off like a rock star- only bad thing i can say is you will no doubt have to wait in a line to use the restroom on weekends- they need more toilets- so be sure to get a drink before you head that way so you can at least get a crazy buzz while waiting your turn

great place for a drink and conversation

I've been to Buddha 5 or 6 times and always enjoy the social crowd there. Very unpretentious. If you go there, be ready to meet others as the clientèle and staff are really friendly and fun to talk to. The food is good too, but the overall vibe wins out for Buddha's appeal in my opinion.

Love Buddha

Buddha is always a ton of fun. I always feel invited and welcome. The drinks are great and I love the music on the weekends. It's like my home away from home.
