What inspired you to become an ice-cream man?

My neighbor died and I bought this really big hunting cooler he used to have for five bucks. It's designed to hold an entire deer. I already own a truck, so I thought, "How could this make me money?" This is what I came up with.

Is being an ice-cream man a 9-to-5 job?

No, it's just a weekend job right now. I'm in between jobs at the moment. I used to work construction and babysit.

Do you need a license or registration to be an ice-cream man?

I hope not.

What's your regular beat?

I tool around Federal Way mostly, but I come into the city for holidays and special events.

When and where do you make the most money?

I did pretty well on the last day of school. Other than that, the after-church crowd is pretty good. And wedding folks, when you can catch them.

What's your van decorated with?

Gaffer tape. It helps me advertise, so people don't just think I'm some creepy guy who likes listening to children's sing-alongs really loud in my truck. Also I can remove it really easily if I need to go to a job interview or something.

Do you think people think you're creepy?

There are a lot of parents who walk their children up to my truck and chat with me to check me out. They see I'm a good guy, and I go to the same neighborhoods, so it's no big deal. Plus, I'm driving a truck, not a van. I think it'd be creepy if I drove a van.

Can I take your picture?

Uh, I'd rather not. All this talk of licensing has made me camera shy.
