Sugar Rush is wonderfully overwhelming. The pastry case is full of dozens of different kinds of cupcakes—chocolate, vanilla, lemon, red velvet, coconut, mocha, cappuccino, strawberry, mint, and even a vegan option or two. They have cupcakes filled with raspberry jam and lemon curd; they have cupcakes the size of a fist and cupcakes the size of a thimble. And each cupcake is obviously treated with great care. Some have small icing flowers piped on top of mounds of coconut, some have petals of frosting, sitting pretty like a rose, some have sprinkles settled in deep crevices of chocolate frosting—each is its own piece of art, and not so uniform that it appears a robot made it. So congratulations, Sugar Rush—you make the best cupcake in Seattle.

Not impressed... Sorry Sugar Rush

I was so excited to see another cupcake bakery highlighted in the local weekly newspaper; as a baker, I love to explore new bakeries and the entire range of baked goods that an establishment has to offer. Since I've eaten my fair share of Trophy Cupcakes, it's hard for me to think that there is a better cupcake in Seattle, including my own. Upon reading that Sugar Rush was granted the honor of "Best Cupcake" in Seattle, I had high expectations. Alas, I was not impressed. The chocolate cake barely resembled chocolate (at least not the dense & moist chocolate cake I prefer) and the vanilla cake was too airy and fell apart right out of the cupcake liner. The vanilla buttercream was too sweet and was barely a step above grocery store frosting (I reserve the term "buttercream" for true buttercreams that actually taste like butter and not just a sugar concoction). I knew from the pale brown color of the chocolate frosting that my high expectations of a rich chocolate experience would not be met and I was not surprised that my prediction was fulfilled. I will say that the coffee flavor in the chocolate frosting was pleasant. Another bonus - you could actually eat the cupcake without a fork and/or knife! For those of you who have tried eating cupcakes in the car, you know what I mean. In sum, my experience was not at all what I expected, and the only "tea" I was met with was the one in disappointed.

Awesome cupcakes and coffee

Whenever I get myself together enough to take the bus aaaaaalllllllll the way over to West Seattle (is that the same country?) I love going to this place. The service is friendly but not overbearing--they'll let you analyze all of the choices and not look bored as you coo over each and every single pint-sized cake. The cake is delicious and the coffee is very good too--definitely worth a visit.

Looks Yummy

Next time I need a Sugar Rush I will head to Sugar Rush. I normally head over to Wallingford to Thropy or Madrona to Cupake Royale but I'll have to try these goodies.

Lovely!

Great coffee, genuinely friendly and unpretentious baristas. Their custom cakes are killer -- go here for your next birthday cake! The cupcakes blow cupcake royale out of the water. Dainty and delectable cupcakes. Lot's of table space and a comfortable, easy atmosphere. Another reason to spend an afternoon in West Seattle
