THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 5

SONIC ARCHITECTURES

I've got two complaints about architects: Apart from failing to factor mundane surroundings like power lines and sidewalks into their plans, architects almost always fail to consider how their buildings will sound inside. This gig is a step in the right direction. To accompany blurred, CoCA's current exhibition of speculative architecture, four electronic artists create sonic environments ranging from the sensual trumpet-driven ambient soundscapes of Bio-Static to the room-shaking rumble of inBOIL. Smack in the sonic middle is the unlikely and unpredictable pairing of the Bran Flakes' Otis F. Odder (who also plays a solo set rife with sunny and strange samples) with the implacable digital chunks of the Mutant Data Orchestra. CoCA, 1420 11th Ave, 728-1980, 8 pm, $5.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6

NORTHWEST SINFONIETTA

This outfit performs nifty nuggets of the Classical Age: J. C. (son of J. S.) Bach's Astarto Overture, Mozart's Symphony No. 29, and the Symphony in G (dubbed the "Mannheim") by Stamitz. Renowned cellist Lynn Harrell joins the band for Haydn's Cello Concerto in D. Town Hall, Eighth Ave and Seneca, 888-356-6040, 8 pm, $10/$35.

MOE! KESTRA!

Need notoriety? Destroy a piano. Percussionist, composer, and orchestra leader Moe! Staiano of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum fame leads a 17-piece orchestra in a performance of Piece No. 6: And They All Swore They Slept Soundly for various acoustic instruments, sirens, and dishes. Apparently a hapless piano, that pinnacle of Industrial Revolution-era musical technology, will be destroyed, too. Additionally, Degenerate Art Ensemble leader Joshua Kohl premieres two sets of chamber ensemble works focused on microtones and rhythmic expansion. Expect riotous good fun. Also Sat Sept 7. Polestar Music Gallery, 1412 18th Ave at E Union, 329-4224, 8 pm, $8.
