Like eating a hobo

The view is prime, the food is the worst I've ever eaten. I had the salad involving beef, which I'm now calling the "pulled hobo salad." It was about a third of a cup of flank steak that appeared to have been boiled to death and then shredded out evenly over a desultory assortment of iceberg lettuce, sad tomato chunks, a smattering of canned black olive slices and rubbery raw pieces of button mushroom, all under a vile vinegar emulsion. It was inedible... like eating rubber bands marinated in white vinegar. And it was $11. Awful. The place was dirty, cramped and yet packed with patrons. We we not drinking, and pretty much everyone else was. I think the location, the view, the beer and the "it's in a cactus shaped glass" margaritas must explain why this place has been in business for 46 years while much, much better restaurants have closed far too soon. Seriously, that salad was the worst food I have put into my mouth that did not end in food poisoning. My dining companion's $14 bland lamb dish was better, but only because it was basically tasteless. Save yourself, and a hobo, and don't eat here.

My boyfriend and I are Seattle natives who shop each weekend at the market for our groceries. Only beautiful afternoon we saw Copacabana and thought "wow, we've never been here before!" and decided to give it a try.

We winded up the stairway and at the top I read about the owners and their emotional story about coming to American with nothing. It was charming, inspiring. We decided to grab a couple drinks and a snack.

The menu was small, and didn't offer many light dishes. When the waitress came to take our order, we asked if they had guacamole. The woman was almost outraged that we would ask. So i said, "no problem, do you have anything that is a lighter dish, perhaps even a dessert? we are not hungry enough for a meat entree".

At that point the waitress told us she could not serve us unless we ordered an entree each! I was incredulous. We were easily going to spend more than two entrees on drinks and food! The people around us were just as amazed and a few shifted nervously as they heard her. It was actually very embarrassing, like getting kicked out of a restaurant.

The best part of the whole thing was that the deck was not even half full! I guess they are used to dealing with tourists who will not take the time to write bad reviews about them. Well, seattle people, DO NOT visit this restaurant unless you are prepared to pull out cash and set it out on the table before you order to prove that you are willing to pony up.

rude, unprofessional, and surprisingly hypocritical considering the story of the poor family making it in America. Maybe they've forgotten their roots?

Disappointing

I have no idea what Bolivian cuisine is typically like, but if this place is any representation, it's bland and generally not exciting. The dish I ordered was low on flavor, but not terrible (the leftovers were great with some hot sauce). But for what it is, it's terribly overpriced.

Wow!

I was visiting Seattle where my sister lives and we went there for lunch. We had an incredible salad with chicken and avocados. The dressing was fabulous! I will most certainly return and try other items on thier menu...after another of those salads!

Kinda bummed

I went there today and had one of their lamb dishes. I was disappointed. I was the only one in the entire place and watched as the cook put things into the microwave and generally seemed to be reheating everything. I'd asked to have the peas removed from the dish (I hate peas more than I hate George W Bush) but the waitress said it wasn't possible because it was pre-made. On top of that, the meal cost me $14.00 not including the drink. This place has a great location, a great facility, and has the potential to be a great dining place. I'd really like to see them broaden beyond Bolivian fare and maybe include Peruvian, Argentine, Chilean or other Latin dishes. Aside from the paella, which isn't Bolivian, I didn't see anything that really looked interesting to me, and I love all things from our continental neighbor to the south. I'll go back to try the paella, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. You'd think that since they're in between the Market and a Latin Mercado that they'd be able to have fresh ingredients...

Hidden deliciousness

I've been through Pike Place about a thousand times and never noticed this place til my friend started walking up the steps to go in. If you haven't been, go now. Though it might be better to wait til the weather warms up since it seems that most of their seating is outdoors. I'm kicking myself for not trying the paella and staying safe with a steak but I wasn't disappointed with it at all. Great place to people watch on a nice day too.
