Restaurant Details

  • It's crawfish flown in daily from Louisiana, boiled up with "LIL CRAZY," "CRAZY," or "XTRA CRAZY" Cajun seasoning, and served by the pound in a plastic bag on your table with a roll of paper towels. The seasoning is actually spicy, the plastic bibs are fun if you're into that kind of thing, and the decor is stupid-over-the-top—a boat and diver hanging from the ceiling, a fake pier, tons of Bayou-themed stuff everywhere. Skip the crab (the flavor gets overwhelmed) and the skimpy, not-so-great po-boys. If it feels like a chain, it's because the owners have similar restaurants (by different names) around the country.
  • Cuisine: Seafood and Southern American

Their Own Landfill

I'll admit that I love to eat with my fingers and get up to my elbows with my food however, this place needs their own landfill. Everything they serve comes in plastic including the food, plastic cups with extra seasoning and utensils (if you need them) except for the roll of paper towels for the hands which was used extensively. So why put the metal bucket on the table??? The paper on the table was where we dumped all of our shells anyways and something I noticed typically being done by many other customers. I was amused by their plastic bottles holding a variety of sauces including one that tasted like "butter" and wondered how it could flow out so easily and not be warm. I would of preferred a couple of lemon wedges for my food and fingertips. They give you a couple of typical hot sauce choices but not the variety lining their window sills which are glued down. We thought that they could be selling some of these sauces at the register for folks to take home instead of doing the false decorating advertising. Eating here requires putting aside one's "Green" conscious to get through the meal... The dozen oysters we started with were good but not spectacular. Then we had 2#s of their shrimp in butter garlic sauce and two Blue crabs as recommended by our helpful but inexperienced waitress. We thought that their garlic butter sauce too heavy and masked the shrimp and blue crabs natural sweetness. Had to send the crabs back as they were not fully cooked which the kitchen did again without question. We thought about asking them if they could do a simple steamed or boil version minus the plastic however stuck with their game plan. Then on to the fried catfish which was very good. Didn't need the side of fries and missed seeing some decent vegetable options on the menu besides the butter soaked potatoes and overly cooked small piece of corn. Suggested this to the management and offered up the idea of putting some pickled okra jars on their tables for folks to nibble on. Does anyone remember the Cajun restaurant in Ballard from years ago that did this? He gave us a courteous smile to this and responded by re-apologizing for their missing in action liquor license. We missed it too! We "might" go back in a while and see if they will cook lobsters for us sans plastic and sauces even though we can and do at home, so much more fun to have someone else do the messy work while eating it is easy! Other friends have tried this restaurant and noted unnecessary use of plastic and paper and where I borrowed the "Needing Their Own Landfill" title from.
