Surveying the aftermath of the 16th Annual Seattle Leather Daddy and Daddy's Boy Contest, it is clear that a good time was had by all. The winners were crowned at 9:00 p.m. and departed shortly afterward to conduct victory laps around neighboring bars. But the celebration was showing no signs of subsiding at midnight. Men of every age and shape are queued up at the main bar, some selecting signature house cocktails from the chalkboard menu (most intriguing/disturbing option: the "Well-Greased Dwarf"), but most choosing beers or a Red Bull-based concoction. If I were a gay man, I'd be irritated to hear the theme song from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy thumping over the sound system, but the subject of the music selection clearly matters less than the consistency of the beat to the crowd on the club's dance floor. Circling around the perimeter, I encounter Rusty Jones, a sweet-tempered fellow wearing only a kilt and a smile. He is the former holder of the Seattle's Daddy's Boy title, happy to be relinquishing his mantle to a new winner. "It's someone else's turn," he says. He's joined by Jim Drew, a veteran of the leather community and also a former title holder (last year's Leather Daddy). Our conversation veers from pageant titles and sexual proclivities to what is agreed to be an unfortunate sign of the times--we've all heard about a grilled cheese bearing the purported image of the Virgin Mary selling for $28,000 on eBay. "Such a waste," Drew says, "those funds could have outfitted half the dance floor in leather chaps!" HANNAH LEVIN
