Green star Delancey (Ballard)

1415 NW 70th St
Seattle, WA 98107
(206) 838-1960
Website

Delancey is a Ballard pizzeria with pie in the thin-crust mode of the (rightly) revered Di Fara in Brooklyn. The waits are long and the spare-chic interior gets loud, but the pizza is worth it (and worth the price, too—IT'S MORE THAN OTHER PLACES, OMG!).

The most over rated place in Seattle

The pizza is good.

Totally over rated. Going out for Pizza should be fun. I don't think I've ever had less fun at a restaurant ever in my life. The host was rude, the wait for a table was intolerable, the wait was blamed on "we just started the oven", we were told the wait would be 50 minutes (actual time 1 1/2 hours), parties were seated who arrived after us, tables sat un-bussed for 15 minutes.

This is like a restaurant run by children.

Seriously--when you go out for Pizza you do it for a fun, non-pretentious meal with the people you love. This turned out to be a 2+ hour experience with frustration. The night wasn't about a relaxing block of time with friends but turned out to be about the restaurant. The pizza was fine. Really good actually. But, I'll never return and never recommend this place.

It's not that I love pizza -- I just love good food. And Delancey is consistently great. (You can find photos from my visits to Delancey on flickr.) I've tried all of the pizzas and have moved onto creating my own combinations for a little extra. Everything is fresh. The sauce isn't done until about a half hour before they open. The dough is done the night before -- after they've been working all day. The shaved Grana isn't put on your Padron Pizza until moments after it comes out of the applewood-fired oven. Basil isn't cut until they're putting it on your Margherita Pizza. Don't just go for the pizza. Molly's salads and desserts are an essential part of the Delancey experience. I love this place. You will too.
