Drunk of the Week
The Final Days of Alki Tavern
Maybe you've never taken the water taxi over to Alki Tavern in West Seattle to get a $2 beer and a $1 taco on Thursday (or a $1 Wimpy burger on Tuesday). Maybe you don't care if every single place that a person can enjoy a drink with a view of the Seattle skyline is disappearing—for those of us who don't make a six-figure salary (sorry, Salty's!). Maybe you don't give a fuck about a 35-year-old dive bar that has Seattle's biggest American flag and is always overflowing with laughter and locals—a place that is biker-friendly and full of history. Maybe you're more excited about the $3.2 million condos about to be built there.
If NONE of the above applies to you, go to the Alki this week and raise some holy hell, one last time, with everyone. The doors close forever with a party on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17.
