Drunk of the Week

Confidential to "Evan," Bobcat Goldthwait's Scotch-Drinking Doppelgänger

Drunk of the Week

Kelly O

Evan! I loved our heated discussion about Scotch versus bourbon in that downtown bar that I promised would remain nameless. Ooh, and thank you, again, for buying me that pricey shot of Glenlivet. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful when I said it tasted like "ass moss." Also, I didn't mean ALL Scotch drinkers were snobs. That said, I still think you should try Evan Williams. Seriously. It's cheap and decent, and Evan drinking Evan is kinda neat. Lastly, sorry for trying to take all those post-barf pictures of you outside. My apologies. You know, though, I don't think I've EVER barfed from drinking Evan Williams. recommended

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer!
Uh-oh....does that second photo look a little like santorum, though?

Kelly, thank you for standing up for bourbon against the waves of bar tending, masochistic scotch snobs. Even good scotch tends to taste like the inside of grandma's old leather handbag...

Oh lordy, look what someone just sent me. The McCondom. Scotch whiskey flavored.

Only really good Bourbon I've had is Woodford Reserve, but I'm open to suggestions. ^^

Hm... need to get a bottle of that.

I thought I didn't like whiskey until I (finally) tried some bourbon (surprisingly late, like in my thirties).

Scotch, even the good stuff, tastes like some bad Canadian blended shit with liquid smoke added. Never understood the attraction. Bourbon is the shizzle. My preferred cheap option is Ezra Brooks, but if you want something a bit smoother (and pricier) Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Knob Creek will treat ya right.

Blah @ 8,

I suggest Wild Turkey 8 years old, and Elijah Craig.

When you want to really treat yourself (and friends), get Pappy Van Winkle.

When you really DON'T want to treat yourself, try Old Crow.
Your cousins, neighbors, and that 65 year old gas station attendent will look sexy

A bunch of my friends are all bourbon drinkers, and they're helping me become a bourbon drinker. If you love yourself, get some Four Roses. If you hate yourself, get some Fighting Cock. But deffinately don't try the Cock for the first time with any other booze in your stomach, or you'll REALLY hate yourself!

What, no mention of Maker's Mark yet? I love that stuff.

I love good (single malt only, please) scotch, I love bourbon (Eagle Rare to drink it straight, Beam black to mix), but by far my favorite whiskey is Irish - Jameson, specifically. It's like everything that's good about scotch, but none of the "liquid smoke" another poster mentioned (that's the taste of the peat smoke they use in the brewing process, btw, which is absent from Irish).

Bulleit. Inexpensive, superb, recognized by many critics

@19
Just because something is recognized by a critic doesn't mean it is good! I recognize dog excrement and avoid it for that reason!!

@17 I love makers mark too!

Seems to be a a heathy populous of Bourbon snobs. Knob Creek is good.

Maker's is almost too "good". Too sweet and easy to drink. Like the Coca Cola. Too easy to over consume, if you ask me...

Pendelton. Really, its better than Maker's-smoother. Hood River Distillery. Hooverville has it for the Seattle folks.

For some reason many of my tertiary friends seem to think I like scotch and over the years have given me a collection of perhaps a half-dozen bottles that will take me the rest on my life to drink. I do like scotch, but in very limited doses. I really enjoy Dalwhinnie, delicate, understated, very pleasurable.

However, I do have a thing for bourbon. In addition to the aforementioned Makers Mark, Woodford, and Knob Creek I would support the above recommendation of Bulleit Bourbon. It's got a bit more bite than the other three and has the added benefit of a reasonable price tag (relatively speaking).
