Green star Fireside Room at Sorrento Hotel (First Hill)

Website

Bring a date (or your grandparents) and sink into the inviting and timelessly opulent lounge inside the classic Sorrento Hotel. Many things here are tasseled and gilded and overstuffed; lampshades are beaded, surfaces gleam, ottomans create almond-shaped islands of squishy leather. The snacks are elegant (and served until 11 pm), and the drinks are made with care.

I finally decided to try it out back in June, but it was closed. It looks like there might be lights on inside.

tea but no sympathy

One of the few places in town to have a fancy tea, and a lovely setting, particularly during the holidays. It may be worth the $40 a head for some, but be prepared for mediocre food and inept service.
