Green star Fogón Cocina Mexicana (Capitol Hill)

600 E Pine St
Seattle, WA 98122

Website

Fogón means "stove," in a way that connotes warmth and hearth and family. The owners of Capitol Hill's Fogón Cocina Mexicana were born in Mexico; the restaurant is staffed with family and friends, and the service is friendly and considerate. It's in the ground-floor condo retail space where first Kurrent and then Kiki failed to thrive, but the ghosts feel fully dispelled: Fogón is airy and pleasantly contemporary, with lime-green walls and a constellation of punched-tin light fixtures in the entry. And the familiar Michoacán-style food tastes extra fresh and extra good. The housemade corn tortillas are amazing: cushy, pillowy, maybe ready to levitate. Chips and a trio of salsas cost extra and are completely worth it. The chile relleno, stuffed with queso fresco, is particularly great. Enough said: If you like comforting, delicious Mexican food and nice people and big margaritas, you should go here.

This is not mexican food...

...it is a bland flavorless joke that Hondurans are playing on stupid white people in Seattle - a city of rednecks who shop at the Whole Foods.

No it doesn't compare to Poquitos... It set the bar MUCH higher!!

This is our new normal. The guys behind Fogòn know how to do it right. We have started to eat here at least 3 nights a week. Every time is consistently amazing. You can't get this quality for such low prices anywhere. We find its more economical to eat hear than it is to buy ingredients for a single meal to cook at home. The staff are so friendly, no attitudes, attentive and are happy to accommodate however they can. Their chips are house-made ready to order instead of those awful ones u normally find in the typical Mexican restaurants. And their salsas are awesome and made fresh each day. They are worth very cent.

If u haven't given these guys a try... You really should! You won't be disappointed.

Good, but not Poquitos

Yes, warm tortillas are always good. But the margarita was too sweet, the chips were too thick, the food didn't have the edge. Fogon is a nice backup if the wait at Poquitos is intolerable, but Poquitos is still the best Mex option on the hill.
