Shelter Animals Get New Toys and Treats

Dozens of cats and dogs at the Seattle Animal Shelter are happier now, thanks to the generosity of Bartell Drugs, Kodak Processing Labs, and Petco. On Friday, January 11, the Seattle Animal Shelter received a $5,400 merchandise certificate from the three companies, to help improve the lives of animals at the shelter.

Thanks to Bartell Drugs' sixth annual "Super Pet Photo" contest, held each October, Animal Control Manager Don Jordan (acting on behalf of the animals) will accept the gift of $5,400 in Petco certificates, redeemable for toys, treats, and other needed merchandise for the animals at the shelter.

"What a wonderful gesture," Jordan said. "This is yet another perfect example of how the community and city can work together toward a common goal--ensuring the comfort of the animals at the shelter."

These certificates assist the animal shelter in providing a more comfortable environment for its animals and help purchase items needed to assist foster parents in rehabilitating sick and injured animals.

As a result of the financial support provided by Bartell Drugs, Kodak Processing, Petco (more than $30,000 over the last six years), and countless volunteers, the Seattle Animal Shelter increased animal adoptions by more than 70 percent and reduced euthanasia by 30 percent over the last four years.
