Thirteen-year-old Lauduree is a precocious A+ student who’s obsessed with climate change, while her own world is out of control, too—her mother’s a partyer, and they live from hand-to-mouth in a trailer home. When her mom takes off for a California dream that even Lauduree knows can’t come true, intergenerational conflict and subsequent learning happens. It’s a predictable story, but one that’s well acted (Amy Madigan is particularly good as the grandmother; Lili Taylor plays a teacher), with a camera that’s not afraid to linger and a great, understated score.
