I pitied our smart, attentive server for having to put on a brave face as she lugged out our colossal platters of bad Italian. I don't mean bad as in your typical neighborhood, "'atsa some-a spicy meat-ball" sort of American Italian. In fact, I was kind of jonesing for that kind of food when opted to try Gaspare. No, this was just poor food, ineptly prepared. You can make better than this in your own kitchen, I swear. And the price -- my God, the price. Insult to injury. Salt in the wound. Never again.

Mediocre food with a high price tag

My date and I were upset to find our local Italian place closed on a Monday, and happened upon Gaspare. The service is attentive and very friendly, but the food is lackluster and uninspired. The Caesar Salad was more like a green salad with some vinegar and Kraft parmesan cheese on top, the veal was limp and not tasty, and there was way too much olive oil in everything. Prices are high for the quality of food. No wonder it's so empty. But again, the waitress was very friendly and the setting was indeed cozy.

Very disappointed

The food was nasty, thank god for my glass of overpriced Chianti to wash it down with. Starter salad was blah, with none-too-fresh beans on top, yuck and weird. The vegetarian penne was very salty, overloaded with huge, inedible sundried tomatoes. I've had better food at the Old Spaghetti Factory for a fraction of the price!

Ugh.

This is not "authentic" Italian; it's authentic Italo-American from the 70s. Overcooked pasta, disgusting oversalted goopy sauces. Beware the vile cream sauces, which will sit in your gut for a week afterwards. The decor's pretty ridiculous and cheap-looking, too. This is better than the Olive Garden, but not much.
