Description: Though it occupies a plain brick building marked by a plain sign with a plain font framed in a plain gold rectangle, the Park Public House on Phinney Ridge is not the early-'90s-era sports-bar franchise its exterior suggests. Inside, the space is trim, clean, sunlight-filled, and outfitted with simple but thoroughly charming decor: white walls, fleck-tile floors, industrial metal stools, chalkboards, file drawers, stacks of Pee Chee folders. The effect summons memories of old school rooms, without all the stillness and the vague tedium of rote learning, only the fun accompanying details: the trillions of handwritten notes from Melody, for instance, usually headed with some bizarre greeting ("I have gastric distension!"), followed by song lyrics rendered in bubble letters, drawings and essays on "doing it," or recent conversations transcribed and picked apart in minute detail.

What's on display: Great vintage photographs of local happenings featuring synchronized swimmers, ambling reindeer, gorillas presented with birthday cakes, and pretty landscapes of grainy, color-saturated mountains majesty.
