Description: A near-perfect replica of the Greenwood version, West Seattle's El Chupacabra is a Mexican restaurant and bar outfitted with deep red walls and loads of skeletons, all of them dangly and congenial. Weekend nights are thronged, but on an early Sunday afternoon, a little girl glides across the dining room in her father's arms, pointing at things. At the bar, a woman discusses her breasts (she had reduction surgery, but they grew back).
Namesake: It refers to a sinewy, hairless creature that drinks animal blood and is believed to be responsible for a sprinkling of dead livestock throughout Puerto Rico and Mexico. Chupacabras probably don't exist—no one's actually seen one, and the last reported sighting turned out to be a mangy raccoon.
Bonuses: A patio, a salsa buffet, and a jukebox that's stocked with hefty doses of butt rock.
