Having Her Cake

Nicastro Whips up a Fundraiser

When asked point-blank by a reporter from the Capitol Hill Times recently if she was running for mayor, popular City Council Member Judy Nicastro said, "I want supporters to realize... I'm leaning towards not [running]...."

However, to find out Nicastro's intentions for certain, you'll have to attend her Thursday, April 26 fundraiser at Town Hall, where, according to Nicastro's assistant Jill Berkey, the council member will make an "announcement about her plans."

Nicastro told The Stranger she is not running for mayor. However, we think if enough people show up and chant: "Run! Judy! Run!" her politician's ego may get the best of her.

The 6:30-8:30 p.m. Town Hall event, billed as Desserts for Democracy, will feature "rows of your favorite treats" like cake, pies, cookies, tarts, and shortcake.

It's a little odd that Nicastro, who's been excellent at calling bullshit on sexist stereotypes about female politicians, is playing up the kitchen metaphor ("baking up solutions"). But far be it for us to skip out on a little shortcake.
