Restaurant Details

  • The heart of Eritrean cuisine is injera, the spongy, slightly sour pancake bread that serves as serving platter, sauce sopper, and utensil. Injera-eating is one of the most collegial ways to share food, much better than the frenetic passing of small plates or the vague menace of forks reaching across the table to try someone else's meat. Instead each person wraps their hand in a hygienic hunk of flatbread and grabs a morsel of whichever preparation looks appealing. At Hidmo, it's hard to choose; luckily, you'll be pleased regardless.
  • Features: Cheap Eats and Late-Night Dining
  • Cuisine: Ethiopian/Eritrean and Vegetarian
  • Serving Hours: Tues-Thurs 11 am-12 am, Fri-Sat 11 am-2 am, Sun 5 pm-2 am.
  • Price Range: $

Bar Details

  • Hidmo's bar is simple and casual. What makes the place interesting is not the bar itself but the people who work it and use it. The people who work it are very charming, and the people who often use it have the reputation of making the best hiphop in Seattle.
  • Hours: Tues-Thurs noon-midnight, Fri-Sun noon-2 am.
  • Features: Full Menu, Good for Groups and Free Wi-Fi
  • Scene: Cocktail Lounge
  • Price Range: $

Heart & Soul

For all of you who whine about how Seattle has no diversity, take a break from Smith or Chapel or BalMar or wherefuckingever you go and go south. They have minorities there. Good food too! Hidmo has live African music every Sunday night, frequently involving traditional drumming and always an open dance floor on which to get loose. I swear I hadn't seen a person in Seattle dance in like six months before I went here. Very refreshing. They also have a varied schedule of live music on most weekends.

Vegetarian combo!

The veggie combo is delicious at Hidmo. The service is always a bit slow, but the food is worth the wait!

food music diversity

Happened to go there on a Sunday night and there was an African band playing. Got the vegi combination and it was excellent, all buttery and Ethiopian spicy. But what was truly remarkable about the place was the mixed crowd in the room -- young, old, black, white, asian. And people danced.
