SODO: The skateboarders who built a guerilla skate park near Marginal Way are busy making their case to the city to spare the quarter-pipes from demolition. One of the skaters wrote a letter to city officials on March 17, pointing out that cities like Portland and San Diego are known for signing off on DIY skate parks, while Seattle's reputation is for tearing them down. "This is a chance for you to start to change that image," the skater wrote.
CAPITOL HILL: Residents along 14th Avenue, near East John Street, are rallying around an antique house, currently home to three rental tenants, that's apparently on the chopping block to make way for condos. Some neighbors, including (ironically) adjacent condo owners, have a unique strategy to stave off more condos: They've set their sights on two massive old trees in front of the house. They figure if they can protect the arboreal fortress in front of the house, bulldozers can't get through to raze the structure.
