Seven figures. That's how much some 800 pages of Kurt Cobain's journals and drawings went for last week when Courtney Love's "gentlemen friend"/manager, Jim Barber, put them on the publishing-house auction block. The as-yet-untitled body of work is expected to hit bookstore shelves sometime this fall, and it goes without saying that the tome will be an instant bestseller.

Two more bits of Love news: New York Post's Page Six broke the news that the Golden Globe-nominated actress is hoping to direct a movie featuring hot young actress Natasha Lyonne. According to the blurb, which ran on Tuesday, February 26, Love screeched at a woman who interrupted her 4:00 a.m. checker game (hmmm...) with Lyonne, in the basement of Hollywood hotspot Lotus, sneering, "If I was a guy, you never would have interrupted me... that's the problem with Hollywood. I was talking to my actress who I'm directing in my movie."

Another bitty bit to chew on: Check out Love's back-in-the-day looks she displayed at the recent Love Rocks Concert in L.A., wearing a fashionably disheveled slip dress, smeared red lipstick, and angry red zits to match her bloodshot eyes. My pals Christine and Julianne can attest that I made sure to miss the first night of the Dr. Illteams extravaganza last December when a third eye threatened to overtake my forehead. Courtney, may I introduce you my good friend cover-up? See for yourself at www.eonline.com/Gossip/Fashion/Archive2002/020227b.html.

Here's another new collaboration to be on the lookout for: The John and Spencer Booze Explosion features 764-HERO's John Atkins and Murder City Devils/Dead Low Tide singer Spencer Moody doing covers, to be recorded by Magic Magicians/Black Heart Procession drummer Joe Plummer. And speaking of Magic Magicians, how hilarious was it to see them perform from beneath a tent, which they set up onstage for their set at Graceland on February 27? Hee!

The Cha Cha was abuzz recently with chatter about a rumored legal war soon to be waged between the former Murder City Devils and Sub Pop. Details are sketchy, but it seems that Sub Pop feels the band still owes money following its breakup. Others will say that the label is retaliating over its failure to procure (with its "leaving member clause") Pretty Girls Make Graves, and is now trying to charge MCD for mechanical royalties, despite the fact that the band still sells nearly 100 CDs per week. And what's up with no one from Sub Pop turning out for Kim Warnick's final Fastbacks show at the Sunset last month?
