Old-timey jaunty-cap-wearer Ivar Haglund lives on as a local legend, and rightfully so—he once staged an octopus prizefight, and when a thousand gallons of syrup spilled on the waterfront, he made pancakes at his Acres of Clams. The restaurant lives on as a local institution—inside, you'll find just-okay seafood in a family-friendly sit-down format, while outside, there's a walk-up fish-'n'-chips bar with outdoor seating. Both have great views; you'll get much, much more for your money at the sidewalk stand (including excitingly aggressive seagulls). Keep clam!

Seagulls don't like ketchup

I've eaten inside the restaurant once and it was excellent. Great food, lovely atmosphere, very good service. But we always grab some chowder at the bar and head to where the gulls are. You can't beat the chowder. It's the best I've ever eaten in my life and I eats a lot of chowder. The fries rule, too. The cole slaw was pretty lame, though. If you can brave the gulls, it's pretty fun to sit outside and watch them freak out.

This is for the chowder!

The fish bar is fabulous for the same food at a cheaper price and faster service. Also, it has the best item on their entire menu...salmon chowder. Sooo good. But you have to recognize the awesomeness of clam too. Cajun fish is interesting. I like spicy, but I think this could use some tweaking. If you go inside I recommend the cheesy crab dip with bread appetizer. Good place to go with a group!
