Green star Kauai Family Restaurant (Georgetown)

6324 Sixth Ave S
Seattle, Washington 98108
(206) 762-3469
Website

The most authentic Hawaiian food in town—loco moco, Spam musubi, poi, saimin, plate lunches/dinners, macaroni salad—is found in a strip mall in Georgetown, and the place is anti-fancy, friendly, and overall great. Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino dishes are also available, all prepared “local” (Hawaiian) style. The cakes have been known to make native Hawaiians weepy with delight.

Their cakes are GREAT

I bought a strawberry cake with guava frosting here for a baby shower. It was truly incredible. A really great way to add variety/theme to a party. Totally different, not something you pick up at a grocery bakery! Really great!

I live in Gtown

Never had a dish I didn't like here. I'm not up on my Hawaiian lingo. But the food is great for the price. The manipua is so freakin good. The bakery that is attached to this joint is top notch. I think it beats the pants off of just about every bakery in the City of Seattle. I've been buying birthday cakes here with rave reviews from all. These people can cook and bake. Don't let the decor fool you. It's just a little whole in the wall so don't expect the cushiness of other places. The service is slow but they are so laid back and nice. Just like you would expect. So with that in mind just relax and don't be so damn push.

Not really the only "authentic" Hawaiian food in town

Authentic contemporary "plate-lunch" type Hawaiian food yes, but hardly authentic Hawaiian (to many post-Mahele dishes to qualify as "authentic") and not the only source for this cuisine (let's see, that I know of, there's Aloha Plates in the Uwajamaya food court - get the huli-huli chicken - Kona Kitchen @ 85th and Fifth Ave. NE - don't get the huli-huli chicken - Hawaiian BBQ above 50th on "The Ave" - skip, unless that's where you are and you're really desperate for this fare - and Hoki's Teriyaki Hut on Leary, and Google turns up at least another handful). This said, the grinds is ono (that's food = yummy for you mainland-ers, of which I am, unfortunately, one). Recommended: the ginger chicken - mostly dark meat on the bone, fried (not breaded, floured, I think) and gingered (marinated?) Speed: so-so. Cost: about that of typical teriyaki fare. Portions: generous. Over-all: Recommended (my family goes out of its way to eat there when they have to come to Seattle).
