Green star Kimchi Bistro (Capitol Hill)

219 Broadway E
Seattle, WA 98102
(206) 323-4472

People love the traditional Korean fare at Kimchi Bistro, an unfancy but pleasant place tucked away back in the Broadway Alley building. The bi bim bap is highly recommended, and soon doo boo (soft tofu soup) arrives at the table in the throes of active boiling, though it soon settles—bright red, spicy, and delicious, revealing bits of savory vegetables and other treats in its depths. All soups and hot pots are served in heavy jade bowls, which are kept warm all day in the restaurant's oven—if you have a hangover, one of these can definitely help you out.

Kimchi Bistro

Nothing cures a hangover faster than a sizzling serving of dohl sot and a steaming little mug of barley tea served by a kind smiling fella in a low-lit little spot called Kimchi Bistro. Not only do you get a glorious mixture of veggies, perfectly fried rice (not too greasy, but flavorful), with little bites of beef and a fried egg cracked over it all in a hot cast-iron like bowl- you also get about 6 little bowls of delicious types of kimchi for your munching pleasure. Or get the dumpling soup with rice cakes. Or get whatever else strikes your fancy- it's all amazing and cheap! Two people can have a big lunch, complete with leftovers, leave a nice tip for the nice guy and still get out of there under $20. Fine dinning for sure.

Hidden treasure

Most delicious, authentic tasting korean you can find for miles.Nicest people running the place too. They can do some veggie options like the Bibim Pab and veggie pajeon including hot veggie soondooboo. Oh and at least two types of soju. Heavenly. Please never leave broadway!

What a Great Find

I had been wanting to try Korean food for a while and was happy to find someplace so close to my apartment. I LOVE IT. The soup that is still bubbling in the bowl was so good. And the little plates of side dishes were yummy. Also the service was spot on. I can't wait to go back!

Seoul Food

A solid little restaurant that serves satisfying, truly comforting food. One of the better options for Korean within the city, one would have to drive to Lynwood or Federal Way to really see what they are missing. My only complaint is that many dishes seem under-spiced, not really up to Korean levels of heat but for its size, scale, and price-- Kimchi Bistro is pretty much perfect.

cute and comfortable

I'm glad there's a good Korean place in my neighborhood. It doesn't have the table top grills or slightly more exotic things (eg. goat stew, raw oysters, unidentifiable mollusks...) that you'd find in Lynnwood or Federal Way. It's got the standard bibimbap, tofu soups and grilled meats and yummy side dishes.

Hot tasty

When the server placed six small dishes of kimchi condiments on our table, I thought she said, "this is the shit". But she really said ".. (inaudible) dishes". Turns out we were both right. The entrees were quite good, too. The soon doo boo soup was good in June, but I could see how it'd be even better in December. Nice little hideout from Broadway -- good service, pleasing decor (including the korean beer posters).

Soon Doo Boo keeps you healthy!

The tofu soon doo boo kept me from getting sick all winter long. So spicy and hot and good - and you get tasty little sample plates while you wait. The dohl sot (sp?) is also a super treat - both of these are so good I've never tried anything else.

Mmmmm

I had never had Korean food (well, except Korean barbeque in thailand) before, and instantly fell in love with this place. I'll be back for more. They should have a liquor license soon, but the real reason to go, of course, is the absolutely incredible food. Friendly service and an out-of-the-way location make it a pleasant retreat to sleazing around broadway.
