My favorite place in Seattle

This is my favorite place in Seattle. Really, really good food (I would recommend the steak marinated in lime and then broiled). Great side dishes; some of the best rice and beans I've had anywhere. Please, please, please do not be discouraged by the awful review by "Niuvis", who, apparently, has no clue what's going on. Who cares about coffee that much? They put sugar in it! Oh my goodness!! How horrible!!
Also, this place is "Latin American" NOT strictly Cuban. I find that there are two types of restaurant reviewers: People who have no clue what they are talking about and complain about a bunch of stuff that has no relevance to whether or not the place is actually good (we call these people "bad customers" in the restaurant business) and people who actually talk about food quality, service, etc. How were the servers supposed to know that you didn't like your coffee unless you told them? They're just supposed to guess that you're upset? Wow, dude, I really hope you never come into my restaurant.

many starches are delicious when fried

Don't let the address prevent you from considering this restaurant. The space is unusual- the entire place in the shape of an acute triangle- but it is painted with bright colors and there's a patio. This place serves cocktails and bottled beer and authentic Latin American cuisine. They don't mess around with their plantains. I had the patacones and the maduritos and both were fried to excellence.

This place used to be nice!

Poor service tonight, little insects rounding our tables; worse "Cuban coffee". They added sugar to our coffees that was supposed to be strong and have that special bitter flavor.
Too loud music. Not Cuban at all in any way.
No one apologized for the incident with the coffee and no one did anything to make us feel better. We left with out having our traditional after meal coffee.
What had happened that changed this place so much? I don't know, but I am not visiting this restaurant again and I do not recommend it if you are looking for good service with Cuban taste. We are way much better than that!

Latin American Cuisine at it's best!!!

I ventured into La Casa del Mojita on Unuversity Way in the U district at the recommendation of a friend, and I could not have been more pleased at following that advice. Not only was the food outstanding, the service was as personable as one can imagine. I went there with an old friend that I have not seen in years. He is from Panama so I thought this would be a great opportunity to try a flavor we were both familiar with. The Yucca and Plantains alone made it worth the trip, combine that with some of the most flavorful beans and rice I have had since I was a child and I'm sold. If you are looking for great food at a reasonable price in a setting that takes you in and makes you feel like you are on a tropical vacation away from the Seattle grind, this is it. La Casa Del Mojita is by far one of the best restaurants I have been to in the Seattle area. I can finally say I found a place that makes me want to return again and again.
