Last of the Juanitas, Zulu as Kono, Exbestfriends
Gibson's, 116 Stewart St, 448-6369, Sat Nov 11, 8:30 pm, $7.

ALL RIGHT, enough of this sad song, cryin' at the show shit. We need a good head-pummeling, we need a good ass-kicking, we need a good bell-ringing. In short, we need to go to Gibson's.

On one glorious night, Saturday November 11, Last of the Juanitas, Zulu as Kono, and Exbestfriends are going to remind every last one of us why it is we drag ourselves from club to club each weekend, suffering fools and sidestepping freaks all in the name of rock and roll: LOUD-ASS GUITARS.

Last of the Juanitas first caught the ears of underground rock circles when it was rumored that Drive Like Jehu's Rick Froberg was touring with the band. Froberg in fact did appear with LOTJ at the Breakroom a few years back, and for those lucky enough to have seen it, the show garnered them bragging rights to be handed down from generation to generation, certified through the rest of the next millennium. Noisy, hard like Jehu, and instrumental so no words could impede in any way the sheer force of rock emanating from the stage, it was a hell of a performance.

Zulu as Kono pack even more clobber with two drum kits, two basses, two guitars, and a Moog synthesizer. Monstrous would best describe these Austin natives. Vocals are sparse and on the order of repetitious lines like "Only hate can make you happy." Sad song, cryin' at the show shit it's not.

As for Exbestfriends, you might even want to dust off the old "G" word here, because their music is heavy, dirty, a little sloggy, and full of metal. The band includes former and current members of Love as Laughter and Automaton Adventure Series, and early reports claim this band will soon be one of Seattle's most feverishly touted new bands.

Sound good to you? Get to Gibson's.
