Pleasant surprise

The restaurant we had planned to go to was closed, so we decided to gamble on the Maharaja. The decor was so drab we briefly considered leaving. But we stayed and were pleasantly surprised when the food came. The wonderful aromas made us forget where we were and the food tasted as good as it smelled. The folks who wrote negative reviews must have been having a bad day.

Dirty, Meh

This place is decent, service is decent, food is decent.. but like other people have said -- it's pretty dirty. When I sit I avoid touching the table, walls or seat. There are flies inside regularly in the summer. The bar they have can sometimes be annoying if the people at the bar are inconsiderate. Haven't been back since discovering India Express.

Dirty.....but not Hep B dirty.

Its cheep-ish indian food. What do you expect? If you want better quality, pay more. Seriously though the place is dirty/dingy.

This place is fine...

While I can't say that the decor is alluring, it's got a hell of a lot of atmosphere (which some people appreciate) -- if you want to people-watch the other customers and admire the art on the walls, this may not be the place for you. While the quality of the dishes tends to be a little uneven from one visit to another, it averages out around very good (occasionally hitting fantastic). One of the few Indian restaurants in the city that doesn't masquerade lamb as beef. The bar is your standard Pike St. hole-in-the-wall dive, minus the overwhelmingly massive crowds. And the drinks aren't anymore watered than at Linda's. Overall, it's a good restaurant, feel free to ignore the previous "reviews".

They serve food...?

Apparently this place serves food. I have never had it so I ca't say if it is any good or not. The bar is dark, loud and small. The drinks are a bit watery. If you are ever in a pinch and don't mind fearing your life, this is a spot to go to get weed when your normal guys are out. Wear Kevlar.

terrible

The place was dirty. The food was bland. The chutney's were watered down. Possibly the worst indian I have had in 10 years. If you want good indian, consider going elsewhere.
