Doug Parry's show at the Muir gallery takes a PNW twist to childhood memories mixed with personal angst in a stagy drama that unfolds on his canvasses with bold and vibrant colors. The settings are familiar and the cast of characters seem so too. They revisit past themes in Parry's work as well as bring in new concepts he is exploring. But the great thing is the painting- a painter's painter Parry brings out vivid and yet surreal characters and contrasts them with a sfumato rendering of timeless figures. His editing of images and daring brushwork create excitement within the excellent compositions. Shadows, gravity and scary emotions play against natural skies and green grass where his intriguing dramas unfold. His work is not easy but deserves a lot of
contemplation and observation in order to recognize the brilliant painting going on.

I had the opportunity to visit the MARNI MUIR GALLERY for the January Exhibit as it was one of the Seattle Times top picks and i have to say it was an incredible exhibit. I particularly liked Dave Kennedy and Scott Goodwillie's work and I believe Dave Kennedy is going to be doing a solo exhibit called THE TWELVE in Febuary which I am definitely going to see. Didn't Scott Goodwillie show at Frye Art Museum a couple years ago? If that is who it is I look forward to seeing his exhibit as well in March. Great gallery for being so new, amazing artists, thank you Seattle for something new and refreshing with a bit of an 'edge'!

Mr Halvorsen's work is very impressive, however, i was put off by the staff of the gallery, particularly the galelry director, Ms Muir. She seemed very haphazrd and unfocused, talked a lot of "artspeak" while not sounding very informed. Plus, she never got back to me with information I had requested on other gallery artists.
