Since moving back to the NW from San Diego, I have searched and tried various places in search for that SoCal style Mexican food. Thank goodness I have finally found it at Memos! I will say that they are not as good as some of the ones in SD but definitely the best in Seattle! A taste of authentic SoCal delicious Mexican food at cheap prices!

Needed my "California" burrito fix, so I went in for a Washington burrito...

and it was just okay-- it'll do in a pinch until I can get back down to Santana's in San Diego. The Washington burrito was just as large and meaty as the Californian, but something was lacking...I think it was the salsa. It didn't add any of the flavor, and the tomatoes were soggy and bland.

Also...they need some decor in there! It really WAS like walking into a high school cafeteria. 3/5 stars from me.

My choice for taqueria-style Mexican food

I certainly didn't move to Seattle years ago for their selection of Mexican food, but certainly welcomed Memo's arrival in the U District a year ago. They come the closest to matching some of the fine Southwestern taqueria style eating I remember in Las Vegas. Their taquito plates are delicious and my favorite will always be their trademark $3.99+ bacon & egg burrito.

I've since moved from the U District but that burrito is enough to warrant coming back to visit all by itself. And the service is always efficient and friendly.

soooo good and cheap

I just stumbled upon Memo's and will definitely be going back. The tortas are awesome and only 4 bucks. The staff is super friendly, I spent 3 hours hogging up their wireless while eating my torta and no one made a fuss.

OK Now it's 5 star

After my review I emailed the owners of Memo’s to tell them that the address on their web site was wrong (I had to wait for a friend, in the cold two blocks away) and about the seating problems, but also to compliment their food. Within a half hour the owner emailed me from his I-Phone and thanked me and told me all that the website and the seating would be fixed. Since I can't fix the previous review, I hope this repairsthe average.

Excellent...except it's not 100% wheelchair friendly

I agree with all the reviews that for these kind of prices, this is the best Mexican food in town! Better than any of the taco trucks (cheaper and a lot more food too) or other traditional Mexican restaurants I've been to. I could be wrong but the refried beans tasted homemade.

I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga Combo and medium Coke ($9.00) and I have enough left over for two more meals. The chicken was tender and juicy and chunky. (I'll post a picture on my blog).

I have to deduct one star because of the decor, there is none, (a high school cafeteria has more character. And as someone in a wheel chair the seating was problematic. There were two choices for seating. Booths, with no room for someone in a chair to get their feet under, or tables with stools (the tables are too high for someone in a wheelchair to use). I wound up using my lap as my table.

But to reiterate, the food was great, but be warned if you are handicapped.

wonderful...

for quick "mexican" food 24/7. note to the vegetarians: be SURE to specify whole beans, as the refried have lard in them.

Muchas Gracias

This is the best mexican in town for the price. The Washington burrito is the is just short of perfection. I went to school in Salem and it is the same food as Muchas Gracias in Oregon and Roberto's in So Cal. I talked with someone there and she told me that the menu at Memo's and Muchas all came from the same dude who started Roberto's. The red sauce is the amazing, the menu extensive, and the food is addictive. Please students go there and support them they need it I have been there 4 times in the past week and there is never anyone there. Tell your friends, go every day, boycot Jack in the Box so they go out of business. Go there you wont regret it. I may just marry a washington burrito. Hit the streets with a pro-memo's campaign. Yes We Can...eat there everyday.

Pardon My Fuckin' Enthusiasm

My chicken asado burrito was a giant load of oh-shit-this-is-good . The carne asada fries need to be a bit crispier, but the meat and additional toppings kept it real. I'll be going back to the U-District. Shit, I can't believe I typed that, but fuck yeah, it was GOOD! I'm putting my five on the burrito, the price, the lack of pretense and the large dining room.

this place is the shit!

The food is cheap.. check the food is good...check, friendly service....check, open 24 hours....super check, This is by far the best mexican food restaurant in seattle. It offers good food at an inexpensive price. I'm never going back to the expensive sit down placer where i'm forced to leave a tip. Screw that!! we've got Memo's now!!!

HELL NO WE WONT GO.. back

This place sucks. The food is low quality and lackluster. And their salsa is god awful, its basically watery tabasco with pepper in it. I'm from so cal too and the first two reviewers must have been really high when they ate this crap. Apparently you still gotta go to california to get good mexican. I'm never going back and advising everyone I know to stay far away too.

San Diego Mexican For sure

This place is exactly like back home in SD...truly a good place to eat for cheap they use real tortillas and wrap burritos in wax paper not the aluminum that the NW seems to love...however I would not recommend the nachos...the carne asada is really good and yes the Washington burrito they serve is basically a cali burrito!!

SoCal Mexican

I wrote a lot more on citysearch, but... If you are from San Diego (not SF) this is the only place in the entire city for you. You can even order a California burrito if you tweak the menu a little bit. Bomb diggety.
