SEATTLE SYMPHONY--No surprise that the best Requiem Masses are written by composers (Mozart, Britten) who also excel at opera; the drama being described is as oversized and pompous as any outrageous libretto. The best of the bunch is Verdi's, a majestic, terrifying, shattering piece of music that so overwhelms you needn't understand a word to know what's being expressed. Benaroya Hall, Taper Auditorium, Thurs June 17, 7:30 pm, Fri June 18, 8 pm, Sun June 20, 2 pm, $15-$65, 215-4747 or www.seattlesymphony.org.

LISA CARDWELL PONTÉN, PAGE SMITH, JILLON STOPPELS DUPREE--It makes for an awkward headnote, but this (respectively) soprano-cello-harpsichord trio isn't an ensemble per se, merely three talented locals teaming up for an evening of "virtuoso love songs from 17th-century Italy," which seems redundant. Monteverdi, D'India, Gagliano, Handel, and others, plus Barbara Strozzi's "hilarious" cantata Moralità amorosa. Queen Anne Christian Church, 1316 3rd Ave W, Fri-Sat June 18-19, 8 pm, $10/$15, 325-7066.

HARMONIC ANTENNA--The great George Gershwin and some Frank Zappa pieces excepted, I think it's generally a bad idea for pop artists to dip into the classical pool; and I've never heard Ministry, Mother Love Bone, or King Crimson, bands which contribute three quarters of this group's lineup. But David Hykes' harmonic vocalizing, dazzling overtones and all, is a wonder to hear, and I assume he keeps good company. On The Boards, Behnke Center, 100 W Roy, Sat-Sun June 19-20, 8 pm, $15, 217-9888 or www.ontheboards.org.
