Let's be honest here, authors: Unless you've discovered a brand-new gender, you're probably not going to bring anything new to the field of sex-instruction manuals. The only difference between the hundreds of how-to books in your average bookstore's sex section, generally, has to do with the design of the book. Besides that, they all have the same "there's nothing wrong with masturbation" pep talk; the same section about how to bring role-playing, costumes, and toys into the bedroom to revive a sexually moribund relationship; and the same everything-consensual-is-positive vibe. There's nothing wrong with any of those concepts, of course—and it's amazing that we live in a time where those ideas are commonplace—but there are only so many ways you can restate the same ideas.

For years, the most exhaustive and easy-to-read guide on the market has been Paul Joannides and Daerick Gross's Guide to Getting It On!, an enormous black book full of sex advice and awful line drawings (the drawings are stiff [haw, haw] and the "models" have hyperstyled hair—enormous, mulleted—straight from 1986). But Moregasm, a guide compiled by the founders of Babeland, could finally be the book to give Getting It On! a run for its money. The books are similar, with some notable differences: Being the product of a gay-friendly sex shop, Moregasm naturally focuses more on toys, sex paraphernalia, and same-sex couplings.

But Moregasm's production values place it head-and-shoulders (and tits-and-asses) above the competition. Instead of awkward drawings, Moregasm has photos of real-looking people—different races, sexualities, and weights—having fun with each other. The layout is magaziney, packed with charticles and otherwise skillfully leading the eye around the page while sharing even the most dry or unpleasant information about STDs and pregnancy prevention. Every sex guide sets out to make readers feel comfortable with their sexuality and imbue them with the belief that sex should be fun; Moregasm feels innovative because it leads by example. recommended
