Fuck is you talking about? There is so much to talk about—there is so much talk. Even more than talk: war, genocide, the mass kidnapping of 187 girls from Nigeria. If you really think old racist rich white men are news, you might need to update your browser. Ol' boy isn't getting the shaft for his views, but because he got caught saying them out loud. Call me when something bigger than the gnat's-attention-span news cycle gets burnt down—when somebody learns how to get entire racist systems and institutions to play themselves on tape... though that's never really seemed to slow down the police. Right, Mayor Murray?

Meanwhile in our tiny corner of this infinitesimal dust mote—where we pat ourselves on the back for legalizing love and weed and fighting for a $15 minimum wage—the temperature's steady rising with gun violence in the CD and South End. What's the move here? Remember when taking on crises, instead of martyring yourself (or just your FB timeline), to look to those folks who been dedicating their lives to fighting them and maybe could use your help.

Now then: Get on with Devin the Dude and Berner—is that the scent of cookies in the air? Smoke weed every day, but they're at the Crocodile on May 7. The next night at the Croc, you have LA's foremost singer of what is officially deemed "ratchet music," Ty$, or rather Ty Dolla $ign, the dreadnought of dread-knots. You gotta love his Beach House tapes—no chillwave—and there's no reason you wouldn't, besides those very solid ones of morals or distaste. On May 9, Vermillion hosts the Jam, starring Able Fader, absoluteMadman, and the god SpecsWizard. Right up the hill, we're celebrating djblesOne's born day, throwing what might just be the final Don't Talk to the Cops! gig at Chop Suey with OCnotes and some fine, fine dancing via Them Team and Vancouver's Konichiwaack. Danny Brown pogos all over the Showbox on May 10 with Raz Simone on deck, while Danny Glover's kid, the beta rapper/actor of our time, Childish Gambino, is over at the Paramount. On May 11, you have the all-ages monthly CHURCH! over at Capitol Hill's Black Coffee Co-op—shouts to organatrix Julie C. They'll be hosting the Warrior Westcoast tour with Zro Prophet, Savage Fam, Shining Soul, and Alas, plus ciphers (hosted by Sista Hailstorm) and beats (via Diogenes) for all.

On the 11th, though, Hieroglyphics titan Casual is performing his crucially classic debut album, Fear Itself, in its entirety in celebration of its double-decade anniversary over at the Crocodile (with Graves33 and Spekulation). This is incredible, highly nerd-out-able news if you, like me, came up on the lyrically deft underground hiphop from our side of the country—and of course you fuckin' did, as it was highly influential to our own scene. Can we please get a double-deluxe reissue too? This is the golden age of "landmark album performed live," for better or worse—but I love seeing a seminal OG like Cas getting to rightfully trumpet the classic status of his first record. Why don't you follow the funk? No crop dust. recommended
