As I mentioned last week, Pilot Books is celebrating Small Press Month by holding Small Press Bookfest; one reading and/or workshop a night for the entire month of March. Pilot owner Summer Robinson just posted a full calendar over at her blog. (Click to enlarge:)

Even though many of these readings will be short and sweet (about 15 minutes for most), you're probably not going to attend every one of them. So let me tell you which readings you should pay attention to. I'm going to focus more on authors who are coming from out-of-town, because you can see Seattle authors anytime.
Week 1: Chelsea Martin is an up-and-comer in the small-press fiction world, and poet CAConrad is always controversial in an interesting way.
Week 2: This is the unofficial Week of Stranger Geniuses, with Stacey Levine, Matt Briggs, and John Olson. We don't give these awards away to just anyone, people. But if I had to pick a non-Genius, it'd be poet Carol Guess.
Week 3: Kevin Sampsell is a small press publisher, Powell's indie publishing expert, and he has two books at indie presses. This kind of sums up the month in a single event. Besides him, the Hello Failure group reading will bring a touch of drama to the month. Locally, Matthew Simmons reads this week, too, and he's always fun.
Week 4: The two events that most stand out here are the Canarium Books group reading, and the literary translation workshop hosted by Yuko Enomoto.
Week 5: You should just suck it up and go to Pilot Books every single one of the last four days of the month. Doug Nufer is always a lot of fun. Sarah Mangold and Kim-An Lieberman are both poets I adore, and the wrap party, with Tao Lin, will at least be an eventful ending for the whole month. Save the dates!
