I guess if you want fake smiles and someone to validate your self worth while getting a cup of coffee, this might not be the place for you.
The guy who usually mans the espresso machine knows his stuff. They serve good loose leaf tea. The 'Swedish' toast is unusual but the flavors work. They also have more standard toasts for the less adventurous.
I personally like that there is no wifi and people using computers must go upstairs. There's something depressing when you walk into a cafe and everyone is sitting alone except the glow of their laptops.
While the coffee and toast are fabulous, it is not worth wading through the mucky, frumpy attitudes of the two owners. I was in their shop recently and picked up their paper to do the crossword. Upon doing so, I received nasty looks from both the baristas behind the counter so I asked them if it was alright. They informed me that it was not, because it was their only paper, so I went around the corner and bought them a new one - for which I got no thanks, not even a smile.
Go somewhere else. The products are good but not worth the poor customer service. Plus, other coffee shops let you use their papers free of charge.

I would have given them at least 3 stars if not for the bad attitude of the owner. Coffee was good, I dig the wall of mugs you can choose from when you're drinking "in", I'm even cool with the oddly sterile but comfortable decor... but I *cannot* (and should not) tolerate consistently dour employees.
You can tell when someone's having a bad day vs. they don't want to be there (or at least, don't want *you* to be there). I can roll with the first if the service and the product is still decent - everyone's entitled to a shit day here and again - but ol' Nellie here is apparently 365ing this attitude.
Seriously, lady - find a different calling if making coffee and toast is such a fucking drag for you. Either that, or take a cue from the dude you work with - he may not necessarily be Mr. Smiley, but at least he's not trying to drive away customers.
Finally: there's no wifi and they don't take credit cards. Not a dealbreaker, but it doesn't help.
