Green star Ocho (Ballard)

Ocho in Ballard feels like a tapas bar should: a crowded, informal neighborhood place, stuffed onto a street corner and easy to miss. The Ocho outing is for tasting things you probably aren't making at home: garlicky gambas, warm plates of octopus with white beans and chorizo, pan con chocolate (a dessert-toast that goes from sweet to salty to heat in a magical manner). The bar's specialty is a $10 aƱejo margarita (which is worth it), but decent tumblersful of wine may be had for cheap. Depending on how much you put away, Ocho is inexpensive, too. A tip for filling up: Order the patatas bravas and gambas, or anything else with sauce for dipping. Then ask for more bread.

Saturday Night Staple

There are two places in the city we have found that have such a high food quality at such a great price point. The broccoli is out of this world. Bring back the chickpeas with bacon. And the white sangria is a perfect starter cocktail. Booze, beer and tapas - you can easily get out of there for under $60 for two.

My new fav

I tried Ocho the week after they opened, and it was love at first sight. The food, drinks and staff were great. I pop by at least once a week or maybe twice and they have stayed true to form. I tell everyone this is the best find in Ballard this year. Expect a wait, but it is well worth it every time.

So Impressed!

The 'snacks' were a meal! My friend and I ordered 4 tapas items as well as the chocolate toast (which was magnificent), and were very satisfied. The flavors, textures, presentation, all were top-notch. The service was wonderful, too. The place was packed the night we went. The waiter was kept hopping, but he maintained an open, friendly and attentive attitude the whole time. The bartender kept an eye out, as well. I never had a problem catching their eye for service, and it was always with a smile. I'm definitely going back, and bringing friends. Come early, the place gets packed quickly in the evening. Also, they have a vodka-infused wormwood cocktail, if any one is interested in that... a little medicinal-tasting, but absinthe is like that.

SOOOOOOOOOO YUMMY

Wow was this place a knock out. The menu is all about the tapa's. These are more authentic then anything I have had in a while. Most of the menu is under eight dollars. Be warned that the plates are smallish. My boyfriend and I ate at the bar and the serve was great. I can't wait to go back for more sautéed chorizo with potatoes and a sunny side up egg. Oh and the ten dollar margarita is a must.
