The menu leans Spanish, with small plates that aren't actually that small, especially for the cost. The lovely low-ceilinged room in Capitol Hill's historic Loveless Building feels both like a neighborhood hangout and like a fine, fun evening out. And as for the food, it's the kind of good, solid value with many great bright spots that makes for many happy regulars.

Okay but expecting more

I've been wanting to try out this cute little spot for some time now since Artemis is now closed and was our fav brunch spot in the hood. I was a little disappointed. The space is great, staff friendly but food was mediocre. I'll start with the good points: the fresh squeezed orange juice was deliciously pulpy, the tea was very flavorful and served in a big pot, enough for 4 cups, the fresh baked pastry (empana sp?) was great, had a nice texture and was served hot. The frisee salad w/ lardons could have been better. The eggs were poached to perfection but the dressing was uninteresting. My husband's omelette was again perfectly cooked but he said it lacked flavor and he could have made something better at home. We'll give this cute spot another try, maybe they were having an off day.

great date spot

my husband and i had a really nice dinner here on New Year's Eve. The oysters and gnocchi were fanfreakingtastic. I also liked how their wine prices were not over the top- just reasonable and delicious! And our server was very nice and obvously knew the wines well.

Five stars deserved

We tried the new Olivar restaurant on Capitol Hill on Aug 9 and found it to be superb. The dishes (especially the halibut) were marvelously done as were the two tapas dishes we sampled. The decor was warm and light. Service was friendly and competent but not overbearing. We will be back for sure!
