THURSDAY JULY 11

TRANSIT

Down that pint of bitter, finish your boiled pork chops, and brush your tooth too, if ya fancy. Transit Sound System is back with U.K. garage and two-step. If you're not familiar with that whole scene, the music sounds like drum 'n' bass with all of the feminine qualities accentuated, and there's R&B and dub reggae thrown in for good measure. Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $5.

FRIDAY JULY 12

BONA FIDE

I went to the opening party for Bona Fide and witnessed an amazing thing--DJs who were actually having as much fun as the people drinking and dancing. What a concept. My motto is, if you're going to throw a party, you'd better be ready to bring the muthafucking party! AC Lewis and J-Justice spin full-on party jams with live keyboards, samples, and effects to give a new twist to old favorites. Nation, 1921 Fifth Ave, 374-9492, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $5.

SATURDAY JULY 13

REMINISCE

Tonight San Francisco's JAY-J of Moulton Studios is back in town, bringing his inspired mixing ear and impeccable production qualities. If you caught his set a little while back at the Baltic Room, it was near-impossible not to be won over by his enthusiasm--he was even playing air bass, for Chrissakes! Aristocrat's, 220 Fourth Ave S, 748-9779, 10 pm-2 am, 21+, $10.

SUNDAY JULY 14

YO, SON!

Don't hate the playa, hate the game! Chop Suey is throwing a Sunday-night hiphop party, so now there's no excuse for you lazy bastards who won't leave the Hill. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison, 324-8000 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $3

TUESDAY JULY 17

SUGARSHACK AND COMPOUND RECORDS--DRUM & BASS

For years, Sugarshack and Compound have successfully put on a drum 'n' bass party where severe beats and throbbing sub-bass is a given. Remember, if you feel like you're dancing at 300 bpm, you probably are--but the bass lines are at half the speed. Slow your roll, brotha. Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, 21+, 9 pm-2 am, $5.

WEDNESDAY JULY 18

ROBO.TRASH

Calling all freakazoids to the dance floor. The Baltic Room, ORAC Records, and Zion's Gate put on a night of experimental live P.A. and DJ sets that's a great way to kick your hump day right in its big ass. Tonight is a live P.A. set from Lexaunculpt, Cid & Eric, and B. Phenix, plus a DJ set from resident Randy Jones. It's time to get ROBO.trashed. Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, 21+, 9 pm-2 am, $5.
