FRIDAY JULY 11

MING & FS

Ming & FS are back in town doing what they do best--putting on a charged DJ show full of razor-sharp mixing and scratching with a little live instrumentation thrown in for good measure. Their sound is an amalgamation of drum 'n' bass, hiphop, and experimental electronics that's always bangin' and easily fills the large venues they play. Definitely worth checking out. With DJ K.O. and DJ Vital. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $10.

SATURDAY JULY 12

FRESH ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY W/KASKADE

See preview above.

ROBO.TRASH

This is still the night to git yer fix of crazy laptop, DJ, and live P.A. talent, a roundtable of technological artistry if you will, a meeting of the digital-media-inclined mind. Come down and see some of Seattle's most forward-thinking musicians fuck shit up! Tonight features Misha and Tom Butcher along with the ROBO.trash residents. Alibi Room, 85 Pike St, 623-3180, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, free. MONDAY JULY 14

DC SKATEBOARD VIDEO PREMIERE

Skateboarding is as integral to the American underground music/art scene as punk and hiphop. More recently, drum 'n' bass and experimental IDM have become associated with skate culture, which has helped break artists in both genres. Though a good portion of the people running around in DC, Element, Independent, and Volcom gear might never have stepped on a board, at least the culture is subversively making its presence known while lining its pocketbook. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 5 pm, all ages, $5 or $3 w/a can of food, 9 pm, 21+, free.

FOURTHCITY WEEKLY

For those of you who crave stimulation for your eyes, ears, and brain, Fourthcity Weekly incorporates laptops, visuals, dancing, and live musicianship in their weekly happenings with a crew of 10-plus multitalented artists. This is definitely a newer school of electronic musicians/artists who hunger to explore new boundaries. Deep Down Lounge, 126 S Jackson St, 682-3242, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $2.

WEDNESDAY JULY 16

FUTURE SOUL

Sun Tzu Sound are once again bringing swingin' London's Daz I Cue of the Bugz in the Attic crew (who are largely responsible for helping to break the broken-beat/future-jazz scene outside of the U.K.) to the Baltic Room along with Los Angeles vocalist Joy Jones. There will be an audio-production workshop before the event, with local DJs, MCs, and dancers. Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444, workshop 5 pm, show 9 pm, 21+, $5 for workshop or show, $7 for both.
