GEORGE ACOSTA
Hugely popular Miami trance deejay George Acosta is the antithesis of everything I think electronic music should be. Thousands of suburbanites dipping their first toes into club culture disagree. They'd consider me a killjoy. Anyway, have fun jiggling your ignorant asses and waving your soft hands to Acosta's bombastic, doltishly sentimental stream of oont-oont anthems. Club Medusa, 2218 Western Ave, 448-8887, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $3 from 8-11 pm.
SATURDAY MARCH 13
DJ DAN, CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE
Raised in Seattle, DJ Dan made a huge splash in California's early-'90s rave circuit and spearheaded San Francisco's Funky Tekno Tribe later in the decade. Over several mix CDs, Dan's built a rep for hypnotic, discodelic techno with tons of funk in its trunk. The ubiquitous "That Zipper Track (Needle Damage)" proved Dan could create dance anthems as well as spin and mix 'em. Christopher Lawrence knows a thing or three about pleasing massive crowds with trance as bland as his name. With DJ Kippy. Showbox, 1426 First Ave, 628-3151, 10 pm-2 am, 18+, $15 adv/$20 DOS.
JAY-J, LATRICE BARNETT
Supporting his new Loveslapped Vol. 3 mix, Naked Music artist Jay-J lays out a beggar's banquet of sultry-diva'd, midtempo house with bass lines on which you can recline and even bump uglies, as they inspire such horniness. San Francisco chanteuse Latrice Barnett emotes to Jay-J's high-calorie grooves. With Wesley Holmes and Ken Wallace. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 10 pm-2 am, 21+, $10 adv.
MONDAY MARCH 15
KRIS MOON, SYZYGY & ZAPAN
Come see what the last Laptop Battle's winner and second-place contestant have stashed in their PowerBooks. Deep Down Lounge at Temple Billiards, 126 S Jackson St, 369-1663, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $2.St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $7.
