THURSDAY MARCH 10

HAKEA, SON OF ROSE, C-K & J

IDM shape shifters Hakea and microsound magus Son of Rose continue to improve with each performance, which means you should do everything in your power not to miss any of their shows this year. C-K & J (whom I've not seen/heard) sample cello and voice and then process them live. Could be interesting in a tweaked chamber-orchestra kind of way. CHAC (Lower Level), 1621 12th Ave, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $4.

FRIDAY MARCH 11

DJ DALUA

Rio de Janeiro native DJ Marcelinho DaLua of the trio BossaCucaNova imbues the suavest music in the world (Brazilian) with subtle electronic elements, for which he's earned many accolades, prizes, and sales for the group's three albums. How sour and dour are those not enchanted with the tenderly melodic, shuffle-rhythmed charms of bossa nova and samba? Very sour and dour, indeed. Behind the Technics, DaLua raises the stakes with a blend of drum 'n' bass, reggae/dub, and Brazilian styles. With Darek Mazzone (KEXP, KUOW). Noc Noc, 1516 Second Ave, 223-1333, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $10.

SATURDAY MARCH 12

WORLDWIDE

Quasi Nada and SunTzu Sound members inaugurate this new monthly night of "live Afro-Latin grooves, Brazilian boogies, and electronic funk." This multi-culti party happens every second Saturday. Nectar Lounge, 412 N 36th St, 632-2020, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $7.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 16

KJ SAWKA, SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, LULLABELLE, PAUL EDWARDS

One of the few live drum 'n' bass units working in the region, KJ Sawka create music that glistens with sophisticated atmospheres and trucks and zigzags with dazzlingly nimble rhythms. With a solid push from Mush Records, Scientific American's ingenious commingling of hiphop and melodic IDM is gaining a much higher profile. Lullabelle are one of those bands that sound like a half-dozen different acts in the course of one song. Their patchwork aesthetic is remarkably ambitious, unpredictable, and baroque. Imagine Steve Fisk remixing the Residents, and you're close to pinpointing the surreal shenanigans going down here. Paul Edwards is a subtle master of many genres who induces transition envy in fellow DJs. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $7. Lullabelle: www.junkstand.com/index.html.
