FRIDAY MARCH 25

COMEBACK

Camp and raunch it up for Comeback's one-year anniversary blowout. Seattle's hippest freaks and freakiest hipsters get down and dirty to underground electro-punk and other debauched semi-hits spun by DJs Colby B, Fucking in the Streets, and Porq. Also performing are MC Chompers, NRDLNGR (solo project of Eric from the Girls), Fankick!!, Chartreuse & Soda, and Dame Jackie Hell. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $5 in costume, $7 uncostumed.

MATT CARLSON, KAZUTAKA NOMURA

Cornish grad Matt Carlson claims influences from American maverick composers John Cage, Charles Ives, and Harry Partch as well as from minimalist droners like Tony Conrad and La Monte Young. It's a tradition that ought to excite anyone into subtle, long-attention-spanned music that aspires to infinite spaciousness and sacred tones. The composer/multi-instrumentalist (who also plays keyboards in one of the area's most interesting rock bands, Schlaze Cubed) will realize a multimedia piece tonight on synthesizers, electronics, and field recordings with videos projected on several monitors throughout the venue. Sounds like the sort of immersive environment conjured by Young's House of Dreams in New York City. Joining Carlson on the bill is Kazutaka Nomura, who plays guitar and sings in local Japanese free-improv trio Na. He will be presenting the world premiere of his newest work, the intriguingly titled Music for QFC. Gallery 1412, 1412 18th Ave, 322-1533, 8 pm, all ages, $5-15.

RIP, KRAKT, AND OSCILLATE

Two of Seattle's most daring nights for electronic music, Krakt (Saturdays at Capitol Hill Jai Thai) and Oscillate (Tuesdays at SeeSound Lounge) have ceased operations. Krakt was one of the few forums in the city for fillings-loosening techno with bpms usually surpassing 130. Oscillate offered a smorgasbord of future-leaning electronic explorations in a comfortable, chic, non-smoking environment. We hope these enterprising risk-takers and talented DJ/producers--Krakt's Jerry Abstract, Kristina Childs, and Paul Edwards and Oscillate's Patrick Haenelt--can resurrect these concepts elsewhere soon.
