THURSDAY MARCH 31

BASSKAMP: BOOKMOBILE, OBELUS

Obelus (Jason Goessl and Adam Pessl) rank among of the city's most versatile musicians, using guitar and drums to trigger an encyclopedic range of electronic sounds for your dancing and pondering pleasure. No two Obelus shows are alike, because they favor spontaneity over rigid planning--and, to paraphrase Miles Davis regarding their formidable chops, "They're motherfuckers." As I've blathered here many times before, Bookmobile (Victor Couto and Ben Torrence) put a quirky spring in IDM's step, giving the decrepit genre more bounce to the ounce than most of their better-known peers. Come hear what I've been frothing about these past few months, would ya? CHAC (Lower Level), 1621 12th St, 388-0521, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $4/$3 members.

FRIDAY APRIL 1

FOURTHCITY ANNUAL LAPTOP BATTLE

Any time you gather 16 laptop producers hungry for cash and software prizes before a howling mob, unpredictability and a panoply of amazing sounds ensue. That's been the tradition with Fourthcity's annual Laptop Battles, and there's no reason why this year's Seattle edition shouldn't be just as exhilarating as past skirmishes. Tonight's contest features KJ Sawka, Nordic Soul, XI S IX, Syzygy, Tom Chi, KFO, Kinoko, and others vying to dazzle judges and patrons in three-minute bursts of concentrated track-making. Winner goes to the championship held during the Decibel Festival in September. See www.laptopbattle.org for more info. Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, $10, 21+.

DAVE SEAMAN, DJ HUGGIE, DJ MB

A Brit with a proven track record for moving asses worldwide, Seaman spins big-room, middle-of-the-pack progressive house and breaks. In addition, he's fattened his wallet by remixing tracks by U2 and Michael Jackson, and producing songs for Kylie Minogue. Whoa. Seaman's touring behind the release of The Therapy Sessions Volume 2 (with Luke Chable on Renaissance). Element, 332 5th Ave N, 441-7479, 9 pm-2 am, $10 before 11/$15 after, 21+.

Finally, congrats to Seattle experimental-techno producer Bruno Pronsato (AKA Steven Ford), who was invited to perform at Montreal's prestigious Mutek festival. See www.mutek.ca for more info.
