Take it from us, you don't want to be alone this election night.

Maybe it's your first time voting in a presidential election. Trust us, no matter what happens, it's going to be nerve-racking and you're going to need some company.

Maybe you remember what the last presidential election was like: the nail biting, the sinking in your stomach... the agony when you realized that all your efforts, all your checks to MoveOn.org, all the meetups, were for nothing—followed by the drinking, the commiserating, the reckoning. You wouldn't have made it through that alone, would you? So if the worst happens AGAIN (pause, knock on wood until knuckles bleed), you won't want to be alone this time, either.

Fortunately, The Stranger is with you. First of all, we're having an election-night party at Showbox at the Market (First Avenue and Pike Street) and you're all invited. The best part is that it's free. The second-best part is that it's all about the election: no cover, no speeches, no DJs—just you, us, and a zillion big-screen TVs broadcasting the results.

Second, if you can't make our party (although seriously, what's your problem? It's on practically every bus line in the city), you can read along on Slog, The Stranger's blog (www.thestranger.com/slog), as the Stranger Election Control Board prowls the down-ticket parties and fills you in as voters decide the fate of the governor's race, light rail, state legislative races, and local levies for parks and the Pike Place Market.

For updates on election-night parties in all local, state, and national races, check out Slog the week leading up to the election. For real-time election results, go to Slog on election night, November 4, 2008, starting at 8:00 p.m. recommended
