Print color!

PCNW is a great place to use photographic facilities and find a lively photographic arts community. It is one of the last places in the northwest where you can still print on an analog color printer. And if you're rusty, or inexperienced, they offer several color photography classes, including a popular night and low light class. Check out the website or sign up for email announcements at www.pcnw.org.

Great facilities, great community, great resources

I am new to Seattle and the Photo Center has been such an incredible photographic community to walk into.

The facilities are top notch. Whether you are working analog or digital, the Photo Center has great facilities available. They have black and white darkrooms, color darkroom, and digital darkroom (macs, scanners, printers).

The membership is very reasonable and it comes with lots of benefits. With a membership you have access to all the facilities for very reasonable hourly rates. The center is open until 9:30pm and its very convenient for those who work during the day.

The staff is very helpful and welcoming. You can call in advance and reserve darkroom time. They offer great classes and workshops as well.

Additionally there is a great gallery program that includes exhibitions, lectures, book signings and competitions bringing in very established photographers from all over the world.

Digital Lab

The digital lab at the Photographic Center has been a great find. After buying a reasonable yearly membership, access to all labs is just $10 an hour. Printing costs additional, but the total cost is less than most advanced labs.

The digital lab is large with state of the art hardware and software including Mac computers with 24" monitors, Nikon scanners, Epson flatbed scanners, and Epson and Canon printers. The largest printer will make 44" by 8 to 10 ft. prints! Even their smallest printer would be a burden in my apartment. Lab assistants are there to lend help to the less technically inclined.

A great place to learn the latest techniques also. Courses are held quarterly in various aspects of digital manipulation (perhaps too strong a word for the process of getting the best result from a digital camera).
