Why?/West Seattle/Sat May 5/12:30 am:

Two women were in a downtown lounge, drinking at a small table. One of them was in her early 40s, the other in her mid 20s. The younger of the two wore a silk tank top, blue jeans, and had something on her mind, something she wanted to say, to get out of her system. After an hour of drinking and talking, the woman in the silk tank top stood up and struck her 42-year-old "friend" in the face with a beer bottle. The time was 12:30 am, and everyone in the lounge had their eyes on the two. At this point, the report becomes unclear, but it seems the suddenness of this attack provoked an old-fashioned bar brawl that involved 8-10 people throwing fists and lots of furniture. (During this chaotic moment, the woman in the silk tank top made her escape.) When the cops arrived and restored order, the older, bruised woman told them that the attack was completely unprovoked; they were having a "good time" until the moment she was hit. Why did she hit her? Why?

Dark Pants/West Seattle/Sat May 5/12:30 am:

Tonight, a young man threw a party at his home in West Seattle. Just after midnight, one of his guests, who had too much to drink, began to throw up. The host became very concerned and recommended that she go to his room to recuperate. The sick guest agreed and followed the host to the master bedroom, where she was offered his bed to rest. While he watched over his guest, a group of party girls came into the room to see what was going on. The host told these intruders to "get out of the room!" because his guest was sick and needed some peace and quiet. The tone of this command made one of the intruders (a woman who wore a gray pullover and dark pants) mad, and she walked over to the host and hit him over the head with a beer bottle. It was 12:30 am, and the blow of the beer bottle caused a six-inch cut on the crown of his head. Unable to bear the pain and the humiliation, the host went unconscious, and when he regained his senses his attacker and her female friends were gone. When the police arrived, the host told them that he did not want to press charges because he feared serious retribution from the woman in the dark pants.

Meat Is Murder/West Seattle/Sat May 6/6:00 am:

A Burger King restaurant on Alaska St. was the victim of a vicious slur-attack by an unrepentant animal rights activist. The restaurant was minding its own business when the activist walked up to it at dusk and spray painted in blood-red letters these terrible phrases: "stop animal exploitation"; "meat is murder"; "stop animal slavery"; "murderer." The manager of the Burger King, the shocked and bewildered Sheila Baskins, stated that this is the second time the fast food restaurant has been attacked by animal rights activists, and she fears the detractors may strike again. At present, the cops have no suspects.

That Close to Death/University District/Sat May 6/11:00 pm:

At 11:00 pm, a man walked into Burger Hut, a fast food restaurant in the University District, and ordered a hamburger. He got his hamburger, devoured it, and asked for water from a busy staff person behind the counter. The exasperated employee stopped what he was doing and said, "Water is self-serve," and showed him where to "self-serve." The hamburger man became mad and started to yell at everybody. He then picked up his stool and swung it toward the employee, stopping just six inches from his face, then said, "See what it feels like to die? You were that close." A short time later, the cops arrived and took the hamburger madman into custody. Sgt. Dixon logged the arrest.
