Can SOMEONE (anyone!) explain this crazy-ass Japanese gay-porn-mashup craze? WTF is going on? It started with all those Billy Herrington butt-smacking-retro-gay-workout videos—you know the ones, with the seizure-inducing techno music and the weird floating happy-baby heads covering all the naughty bits. The ones with the deliberately bad translations of the lines from his old movies ("like embarrassing me" translates to "you are sloppy recently"?! WTF, WTF, WTF!). There are thousands of mashup versions on YouTube (my favorites: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and Nico Nico Douga, a Japanese video-sharing site. Some of the descriptions of the videos are equally baffling. One such description, for "Don't Stop Billy Now!!" a video with Herrington that uses a Queen song instead of the typical techno music, states: "I only want to show honor to Queen and Mr. Billy Herrington, so I contribute this movie. This movie doesn't encourage to discriminate the homosexuals."

And they do show Herrington a lot of respect. He's an internet meme hero now. Most videos affectionately call him "Aniki" (Big Brother), "Mori No Yousei" (Forest Fairy), and "Tetsugaku" (Philosophy). He's appeared on Japanese talk shows and even has a weird-looking (diaper-wearing?) limited-edition action figure coming out.

WTF, Japan?

Now, more recently, jumping on the Herrington Forest Fairy bandwagon is RuPaul. The video for "Jealous of my Boogie," the second single off his new album, Champion, mashes XXX star Tommy Gunn and a creepy makeup-wearing bouncing baby RuPaul head with some cutesy anime-looking kittens. WATCH

Is this a new never-ending trend? And which gay porn star will be next to be honored, immortalized, and gay-kitten-baby-head-ified?recommended
