Poster of the Week
Mon Sept 30, Showbox, $17-$20.
Frankie Chan has an appreciation for hand-drawn poster designs. In fact, he thinks it takes more than access to a copy machine to make an interesting poster. Of the current crop of posters, he says, "I was sick of the Xeroxed cut-and-paste fliers. They just looked dull." After booking shows and creating fliers in Bellingham, Chan moved to Seattle to work as a booker for Graceland, and has made over 60 posters in the past three years--many of them running along a loose story line involving punk freaks. Chan plans on compiling a graphic novel featuring his comic characters, but for now, look for his detailed, pen-inked artwork on utility poles around town. JENNIFER MAERZ
